Dental Hygiene Tips and Tricks for Even Brushing
Did you know that your brushing will differ between your dominant and non-dominant hand? It's true! Depending on whether you are right or left-handed, you'll tend to brush that side of your mouth harder with your toothbrush.
While you may not see a difference while you're brushing, it can sometimes be noticeable at your dental cleaning or check-up. For example, your dental hygienist or dentist will see heavier amounts of buildup, gum recession, or abrasion and wearing away of the tooth enamel on your dominant side.
To ensure you get an even brushing every time, check out these dental hygiene tips from Cincinnati dentist Dr. Weisenberger:
Switch to an electric toothbrush, one that times you and gauges the amount of pressure you are using.
Get into a hygiene routine in which you start brushing your teeth on your non-dominant side first. So, if you are right-handed, brush the left side of your mouth first.
Also, while brushing, pay attention to how tightly you are gripping the toothbrush, and how aggressively you are applying pressure. Remember, gentle circles are all you need for appropriate dental hygiene when using a manual toothbrush!
